  • Great job everyone on a great finish to the school year!  Thank you to Jack Schmidt, Marilee Hoffman, Patti Tenhagen, Brad Ferstenou, and Stephanie Rummler for your work with all of our activities this past week!  The color run/battle was a great addition to Field Day!  It was great seeing our students so engaged and excited!
  • Thank you to Kurt Rummler, Mike Jones, Jack Schmidt, Dustan Eckmann, Rod Stoughton, Jane Peterson, and Kim Moss for your efforts and support with 8th grade recognition.
  • Congrats again to Marilee Hoffman on your retirement!!!  Marilee served the Burlington Area School District for 31 years!  I have a hard time writing this Marilee as you truly will be missed and it will be tough to not see your positive nature on a daily basis here at Karcher next school year but we know you will come visit once and a while, between all of your trips :)

  • Below are items relating to the 2017-2018 school year.  More details will come in August when we are all together but I wanted to get you our calendar, etc so those wanting to work on some planning over the summer can (but make sure you relax a bit this summer too!!!)
  • Here is our 2017-2018 Karcher Calendar for this coming school year.
    • PLCs have not been set yet as we will discuss this further with our Building Leadership Team.
    • On the first page of our Karcher Calendar you will see links to our bell schedules, teacher schedules, literacy website, advisory website, etc.
    • When looking at the bell schedules you will notice a STAR Schedule.  This schedule will be used every Monday throughout the school year.  This is for 3 good reasons.
      • 1.  We have four courses being taught during iTime (SPEN, 7th Math 180, 8th Math 180, and Continuing Spanish) and need to ensure we have enough minutes for each of the courses.
      • 2.  We want to sustain a quality character education program.
      • 3.  Reading time to assist with the changes to our ELA courses as students are needing more time to complete required readings throughout the school year.
      • Therefore, on Mondays there will be character education along with STAR (Structured, Targeted, Active, Reading) throughout the whole school but those who have a class will hold class during the STAR portion on Mondays with STAR taking place for those students during study support or resource.  We will discuss this further in the fall but wanted you to have access to the schedule and calendar for planning purposes.
  • Here is our Advisory Teams along with who will be available for iTime.
    • Changes to iTime will be as follows...
      • Each house has 4 staff members that will teach  targeted instruction sessions for 3 weeks to a specific group of students.  Your targeted instruction will fall within the SQIDVPAC strategies but you can use your content area when teaching the strategies.  There will be 4 groups per house.
      • Each group will then rotate through the four teachers, Group A with teacher 1 for 3 weeks, Group B with teacher 2 for 3 weeks, Group C with teacher 3 for 3 weeks, and Group D with teacher 4 for 3 weeks.  Then... Group A will rotate to teacher 2, Group B to teacher 3, Group C to teacher 4, and Group D to teacher 1.  This will then continue until all four groups rotate to all four teachers.  You will have the ability to teach the same lessons to all four groups if you would like to.  A lit circle can take place, etc the focus just has to be an ELA or math focus infusing the SQIDVPAC strategies.
      • Students who are in Math 180 and Continuing Spanish will not be in these rotations as they will have class during iTime.
      • Then... our math, ELA, and interventionists can pull students as needed from any group throughout the iTime rotations.  Students will then return to their groups throughout the rotations after they received the targeted instruction from ELA or math.
      • Normally I would not share so much via the blog but wanted to get you information for those who may come across articles or ideas for our iTime groups over the summer.
      • We will go over further details in August when we are all together so if you are nervous about anything don't be!!!  This is going to make iTime much more manageable while maintaining an ELA and math targeted instruction focus.
  • Staff Cookout at the Oelslager residence for the entire Karcher Staff will be on August 27th starting at 3:00pm.
    • You are welcome to bring your kids!  Our pool will be open so bring your suits or bring your kids swim suits to enjoy the pool!
    • Beverages and the main meat/buns will be provided.
    • Please bring a dish to share!
