Information for 2018-2019 School Year

  • The first page of the calendar has additional information relating to schedules, advisory groups, etc.  
  • If you see anything that needs tweaking please let me know! This is not 100% set but gives us a good skeleton to work with!


Karcher Summer Cleaning: 
  • Waxing and cleaning of Karcher will begin on July 5!  All rooms and hallways will be waxed.
  • Our gym will be resurfaced starting sometime in mid August with completion prior to the start of the school year.  The gym will be resurfaced to look like the high school gym with a big B at center court, etc.  The blue strip in the gym is also going to be painted to match our school colors! 
  • Lockers that are damaged will be replaced as well heading into the start of the school year. 
  • If you have any maintenance needs please fill out a maintenance request so that necessary items for you are taken care of over the summer! 

August dates to know:  
  • Monday, August 13 - Karcher office opens back up from 7:00 - 3:30.  
  • Monday-Wednesday, August 13-15 - Mandt Training from 8:00 - 2:00 in our Karcher library.
    • Those needing to be Mandt Trained (you would have received an email about it from the district office) for the first time this training is for you!
  • Monday-Wednesday, August 21-23 - New staff inservice dates!  
    • All new teachers will be attending from 8:00 - 4:00 in our Karcher library!
    • Mentors attend on August 23 from 8:00 - 4:00 (starting in the library).
  • Wednesday, August 22 - BLT Team Meeting from 8:00 - 2:00 in the large conference room.  
    • Lunch will be provided!  
  • Sunday, August 26 - Karcher staff cookout starting at 4:00pm at the Oelslager residence!  Feel free to bring your whole family!  If the weather is nice kids/adults are welcome to swim in the pool!  
    • Address:  30707 Running Fox Trail, Burlington
    • Items to bring:  side dishes or desserts.  
      • I will supply the meat and beverages!
      • Please RSVP to my email as to the number attending so we can plan accordingly!  Look forward to seeing you all there!
  • Monday, August 27 - Special Education Teachers 
    • All district special education teachers will be meeting in the Karcher library from 8:00 - 12:00.  If you want to log hours and stay until 4:00 you can!  
  • Monday, August 27 - Special Education Aides
    • There is a Mandt recertification training in our Karcher library from 1:00 - 4:00 for current employees that need your recertification.  
  • Tuesday, August 28 - All day teacher work time from 8:00 - 4:00.  
    • There are no district or building level meetings on the 28th!  This is your time to set things up for the year
  • Wednesday, August 29 - Inservice from 8:00 - 4:00 
    • 8:00 - 10:00 District Level training with iReady for grades 6-8 will be in our Karcher library.  
      • All Karcher staff will participate in the training.  
    • 10:30 - 12:00 - Building Level Meeting in the Karcher library.  
    • 1:00 - 4:00 AIMSweb Training for our special education teachers and interventionists in our Karcher library.  
    • 1:00 - 4:00 is teacher work time for the rest of staff.  
  • Wednesday, August 29 - Open House grades 4K-8 
    • Elementary 5:00 - 6:00 
    • Dyer 6:00 - 7:00
    • Karcher 7:00 - 8:00 
  • Thursday, August 30 - Inservice from 8:00 - 4:00
    • 8:00 - 11:30 District Level Time in the BHS auditorium.
      • Trauma Sensitive Schools training.  
    • 12:30 - 2:00 - Building Level Meeting in our Karcher library with all staff.  
    • 2:00 - 4:00 - Teacher work time.  
  • Friday, August 31 - No School.  
  • Monday, September 3 - No School.  
  • Tuesday, September 4 - First day of school!

  • Kudos to Brad Ferstenou and Stephanie Rummler for your work putting together the Character Award Days!  The Hungry Hippo was awesome to watch!  Thank you to Cynthia Orzula, Grace Jorgenson, Barb Berezowitz, Andrea Hancock, Jon Nelson, Amanda Thate, Donna Sturdevant, and Dina Weis for participating!  
  • Kudos to Dustan Eckmann and Liz Deger on a great orchestra concert this past week!  And to Dustan Eckmann also for a great band concert following the orchestra concert!  
  • Kudos to Jack Schmidt and Stephanie Rummler on a great trip for some of our students to attend the Holocaust Museum!
  • Kudos to Stephanie Rummler and Mike Jones on a great trip to Madison for our NJHS students!  
  • And thank you in advance to Jack Schmidt, Eric Sulik, Wendy Zeman, Stephanie Rummler, and Brad Ferstenou for all of your work putting together Field Day!  And thank you Amanda Wilks and the Vanhar Foundation for allowing us to assist with raising funds for children in need!  It is a lot of behind the scenes work and it is going to be great day for our students!  
  • And... thank you to the following individuals who will be leaving us after this week:  
    • Marian Hancock will be retiring and her last day is June 8!  Marian is looking forward to numerous camping trips, and spending time with her grandkids. Thank you Marian for your consistent patience, flexibility, and for being you!  You wore so many hats and wore them well!!!  We will all miss you but we are all also jealous that you are retiring and able to do whatever you want now!  :)  
    • Mike Yopp did an amazing job this year as our STEM teacher, thank you Mike!  He will be back next year though  so we will see you again Mike!  :)  
    • Amanda Wilks, health aide, will be moving to Texas on June 11 with her family.  You have been a great addition to our staff and we want to thank you so much for all of care and compassion you have given our students!  
    • Becky Hoesly, counselor, will be full time at Dyer next year! Thank you Becky for all of the behind the scenes conversations, support, and guidance you have given to our students over the past two years.  You will truly be missed but we are excited for you to have the ability to not have to travel between buildings!  
    • To celebrate all of them there is a luncheon on June 5!!!  Thank you to those who have already signed up to bring something... if you haven't yet you still can!

  • 8th grade staff below is the slide show for 8th grade recognition.  Please make sure everyone in your advisory has a slide and it is added to the below Google Slide Show no later than Wednesday.

  • 8th grade recognition video... I will be putting together a video of staff quotes and phrases for our 8th grade students that will be shown during 8th grade recognition.  If you would like to say something to our 8th grade students click HERE to add.  I will do my best to get everyone represented!

This week:  
  • ELA this last week is your week to have students email their parents/guardians!
  • Monday, June 4 - Staff Meeting 2:40 - 3:00 
    • All staff are welcome to attend!  
  • Tuesday, June 5 - Afternoon Assembly Schedule for the Pops Concert.  Please bring your 7th hour class to the gym and sit with them for the duration of the performance.  
    • One teacher from each house can stay back with students who need to get caught up for the year... determine who that is and who will then take your class to the gym, etc.  
  • Tuesday, June 5 - Pops Concert in our gym at 7:00pm!  
  • Wednesday, June 6 - No PLC please use this time for end of the year needs.  
  • Thursday, June 7 - Field Day!  
    • Click HERE for the schedule for the day.  
    • During lunch we need all hands on deck please.  There will be subs for everyone for lunch from Subway in the staff lounge.  Please take turns getting lunch and assisting with supervising lunch.  The lunch periods will run per usual during Field day with all students eating in the cafeteria and then going out for recess.  
    • Chromebooks... 
      • By the end of the day on Monday you will have your current advisory list with next year's advisory teacher's name noted after each of your students in your mailbox. 
      • During the chromebook time set aside during the schedule please bring your advisory to the library to sort their chromebooks for next year.  Make sure they are totally turned off and leave your cords in your carts.  
      • All 8th grade teachers need to put their signs (which Marian is putting in your mailbox) on your chromebook carts and have your empty carts brought to the conference room right after your current students take their chromebooks out for the day.  
      • There will be boxes labeled with the 9th grade advisory teachers for 8th grade to sort and the 8th grade carts will be labeled for 7th grade to put chromebooks into the carts.  
        • The 9th grade boxes will be on the wall by the ULab and the carts will be in the conference room.  
      • 7th grade advisory teachers you can leave your carts in your rooms.  
      • Click HERE to see if you will have an 8th grade advisory next year and need to bring your cart to the conference room on Thursday morning.  
  • Friday, June 8 - Half Day - Last day of school!!!

      • Doors to the gym open at 9:15 for families to enter the gym.  
      • Recognition starts at 10:00 - 11:00/11:15  
      • Students are allowed to leave with their families after recognition or they can return to the library until 12:00 to catch their buses.
