  • September 11 - ELA email week.
    • You are probably asking... what is this?  AT BLT we discussed having students email their parents/guardians or teacher information about their class so far.  In order to not send 7 emails to parents a week we will simply have an area send an email out one per week.  So, this week it is ELA.  The reason for picking ELA first is to assist with explaining proper email etiquette so that students then follow that etiquette throughout all emails to parents.
    • You do not have to send the emails on Mondays, you simply just need to email home once during the week your area has.  So ELA will all send an email home sometime this week, when it fits best for their lessons.
    • Students who say their parents don't have email or something of that nature should pick a teacher to email their information to.  Perhaps printing out the email and bringing it home for those students is a good idea as well... think that through per student.
    • The "why" for this is to assist students with utilizing their emails but also communicating with their parents/guardians as to what they are working on while they are at school.
    • You will notice in the Karcher Calendar a different subject/area on all the Mondays... the whole school year is laid out as to which weeks you would have for your classes if you want to look ahead.
  • September 11 - 15 - Extended Advisory all week! Please ensure you are utilizing the Advisory page (linked on the Calendar) to assist with the lesson plans for each day.
  • September 11 - Staff Meeting 2:40 - 3:00 with the focus being Kick-off day and any extended advisory needs.
    • The bell schedule will be shared with staff during the staff meeting as it will be a modified schedule.
  • September 11 - Girls Basketball starts!  Have girls interested see Kurt Rummler (8th grade) or Brad Ferstenou (7th grade).
  • September 12 - Picture day!
    • Students will be called to the U-Lab throughout the day to have their pictures taken.  Staff will need to also have their pictures taken at any time throughout the day that works best for you!
  • September 12 - Flag Football Starts!  Have students interested in playing see Hans Block or Jon Nelson.
  • September 13 - First Essential Skills PLC - we will meet in the library focused on what your team indicated on your PLC planning document (on first page of Calendar).
  • September 18 - First time we will be using the STAR Monday schedule.  The bell schedule is located on the first page of the Karcher Calendar as well.
    • The ELA teacher within your advisory group will be sending you the focus for your STAR time.  Everyone needs to ensure they inform their advisory about the focus and follow the plan given to you by the ELA teachers.
  • September 18 - Start of MAP testing.
    • The week of September 18 will be used to MAP test for Language Arts within the ELA classrooms.  The ELA teachers will MAP test on Monday and Tuesday and then depending on the number of students still needing to test will be up to you if you use Wednesday or if you have Marian Hancock assist with completions and makeups on Wednesday - Friday.
    • Then the following week will be MAP testing for Math following the same format.  And lastly, the final week being the MAP Reading in Science classes with the same format as well.
  • September 19 - Start of iTime rotation #1.
    • Academic Teams - make sure all four groups for your house are set prior to September 14.
      • Please share your documents with me so I can add them to the Karcher Calendar for all to view.
    • The non Math and ELA teachers all need to make sure you have your four day lessons utilizing your reading comprehension strategy (SQIDVPAC) planned prior to September 19.  You can use your content area to pull articles, etc so long as the focus of the reading is on the actual reading strategy itself.
    • Math, ELA, and interventionists - don't forget to indicate the students you will be pulling from the groups on the iTime Pull Doc (also on the first page of the Karcher Calendar)
